Ranged combatants with formal training in ranged weaponry and basic training in melee weaponry, often through military service, academies, or some type of warrior or mercenary guild, those in this role are trained to use cover while firing at and advancing on opponents. Those who train to be troopers most often do so in the service of an organization, usually out of a desire to serve, though there reason could be motivated by politics, religion, or some personal impetus. In general, they tend to be conformists who prefer to be a part of the whole and understand that you follow orders or people die.
With a number of skills in both the ranged and melee combat specialties, the trooper begins with more combat options than many of the other roles, while the proficiencies are focused on movement skills that provides them with much needed mobility. Players can choose to sacrifice a number of skills to pick up the Performance specialty, allowing for additional move options as the character advances, or the Statecraft or Technocracy specialty for additional versatility.
Primarily a ranged combatant, Troopers also have training in melee combat, these characters begin with a suit of armor, ranged weapon, melee weapon, and traveler pack, the quality of which is based on the starting wealth class. These gear packs do not have a specific monetary value, rather they are designed to ensure that starting characters have the basic gear they need to begin play. Substitutes for items of a roughly equal value may be made with GM approval.
