The character sheets have space for recording a variety of information, one of the more important is their Reputation. Not only is this a key factor in how the character is roleplayed, but it directly affects how NPCs react to and treat them during the game. This is also a factor that can change as the character levels up, providing a societal acknowledgment of their accomplishments and advancing skills. Whether its fear or respect, players want a reaction when they walk into a room, it’s fun and enhances the overall roleplay experience.

The reputation system has two components Notoriety and Reputation Rank.

Notoriety

This represents the manner in which characters are viewed by the populace, i.e. how they act in public. Examples of stereotypical traits have been provided to offer players some ideas, and from which a personage can be built.

This factor will determine how the character is perceived by the NPCs during roleplay and combat.

Players may choose a notoriety from the examples given here or create something unique. As play progresses, a notoriety can be changed at any time with no penalty, and characters can have a different notoriety in different areas.

This list is not complete, rather it is a general list of common mannerisms.

Reputation Rank

This represents the character’s level of fame and/or authority. The initial score is determined by the starting Social Status (modified by Wealth Class) and each rank has a modifier (first number) that affects NPC reactions and any Influence-based roleplay attack skills (second number) in an acquired skill tree. Reactions are determined by the character’s notoriety, i.e. characters who have a fearful notoriety will get a bonus modifier to the Intimidate skill, but not to the Endear skill.

As characters level up, they gain Reputation Points that may be used to increase this rank. It is possible to have a separate rank for groups and individuals.

Ranks

  • Forsaken (-4/+4)
  • Loathed (-3/+2)
  • Shunned (-2/+1)
  • Avoided (-1/–)
  • Unknown (–/–)
  • Rumored (+1/–)

  • Recognized (+1/-1)
  • Respected (+2/-1)
  • Renowned (+2/-2)
  • Celebrated (+3/-2)
  • Famous (+3/-3)
